Terrance Stanley "Terry" Fox, CC (July 30, 1958 - June 28, 1981) was a Canadian athlete and cancer treatment activist. He became famous for his "Marathon of Hope", a trans-Canadian trek he undertook to raise funds for cancer research; he ran this marathon despite an artificial leg. He is considered one of the greatest Canadian heroes of the 20th century, and his memory is honored every September when the public takes part in the Terry Fox Run, the world's largest daily fundraising event for cancer research.
